Day One: So You Thought a Map Would Help?

3/17/2016

Fuuuuuck me. Kathmandu is amazing. Makes the “four hour flight next to a toddler” worth it kind of amazing. So much trash and pollution and stress.

Earthquake definitely had an effect. So much reconstruction. So much pride, women in heels and me with sweat pouring off as I walk up a hill where the street has been shaved up and tarred down.

Gigantic boogers from the smog. Lot of citizens are following the way of the ninja. I love it.

Taxi ride was amazing. Conned a tout to show me where my hotel was hidden in the back streets. It feels great to sit in a sit I don’t have to shrink into. I can almost feel the building sway from up here.
Maybe that’s just from the dehydration. Letting the chlorine pill in my water bottle do its work, then out I go for a few. – 7:22p

Stumbled my way through the backstreets. So much crammed into so little. Shops everywhere like madness hocking the same kitschy stuff as the one three doors down. Tons of North Face shops.

Found an Irish pub, had a Gorkha and a Tully. Sat down with the owner and her friends. One of them is moving back to Kansas City with her husband in the coming months. Out of the frying pan and into the deserted wasteland of cults and extremists. Small world. – 11:21p
